110 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine I nterested in investment banking from a formative age, Frank Jordan Hawley Jr. commenced his career in 1955 as a research analyst with Eaton & Howard, Inc., holding the role for four years. After serving five years with Lazard Frères as an investment banking associate between 1959 and 1964, he moved on as a portfolio manager for Stein, Roe & Farnham for an additional five years. From1969 to 1974, he served as Executive Vice President at Laidlaw Coggeshall, Inc., and then became a Partner at Foster Management Co. from 1974 to 1982. Since 1982, he has been the Managing Partner at Saugatuck Capital Co. in Stamford, Connecticut, where he has since retired and now serves as a senior advisor. His son, Stuart, currently manages the company. Since founding Saugatuck in 1982, Mr. Hawley credits its success to Bill Grant, the former president of Smith Barney & Company, who helped him raise $28 million for his first venture capital fund. Mr. Hawley served as Chairman of the Board of a number of Saugatuck portfolio companies, the most recent being Floor & Décor Outlets of America, Inc. He also was a member of the Board of Visitors of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a former Vice President and Treasurer of the New Canaan YMCA. He maintained affiliation with the Links Club, the Harvard Club of New York, the New Canaan Country Club, the Mill Reef Club and the Bald Peak Club. Mr. Hawley notably served his country as a Lieutenant (JG) in the United States Navy after graduating from the Naval ROTC program at the University of North Carolina in 1950. He was assigned to a destroyer and spent one year in the Korean War. The proud father of five children and grandfather of nine grandchildren, Mr. Hawley was selected for inclusion in multiple Who’s Who publications between 1987 and 2014.
