113 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine GOVERNMENT AND MILITARY A ppointed to the Whitehall School Board in Montana at the inception of his career in 1966, Terry L. Murphy served the board intermittently until 1978 while also serving Montana Farmers Union, the Montana House of Representatives, and the Montana State Senate. The president of the Montana Farmers Union between 1979 and 1989, he also excelled in his roles of director of the National Livestock and Meat Board, committee member of the Jefferson County Democratic Central Committee, and director of the Farmers Union Marketing and Processing Association. Notably, from 1994 to 1995, he was chairman of the Jefferson County Planning Board, having subsequently served as committee member for the Jefferson County Republican Central Committee in 2000. Retiring in 2015, he was a state legislator of District 39 with the Montana State Senate, a role he held for eight years. Becoming involved in legislature under the suggestion of two former legislative members, Mr. Murphy tapped into his innate potential for leadership and delved into the political sphere. Demonstrating versatility throughout his life, he is also an experienced farmer, having grown up on a family farm as a young boy. Passionate about the agriculture industry, he has always enjoyed farming as it was an autonomous business. In fact, he is still living on his family farm, which consists of over 2,000 acres of land. He has also maintained association with the Cardwell Community Church since 1966. A member of the National Rifle Association, Mr. Murphy has been honored multiple times for his success and longevity in the field. He was named an Outstanding Leader in Agriculture by Montana State University in 1996, having previously been recognized as an Outstanding Conservationist by the Jefferson Valley Conservative District in 1973. Impressively, he has been selected for inclusion in Who’s Who in American Politics and Who’s Who in the West beginning in 1985. A native of Butte, Montana, Mr. Murphy currently resides in Cardwell, Montana, and enjoys camping and traveling in his spare time. TERRY L.
