115 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine C ombining his passion for aiding people in need and desire to join the U.S. Air Force, Dr. Wayne S. Sellman earned a BA from Texas A&M University in 1962 and subsequently became a commissioned second lieutenant in the Air Force. He advanced through the grades to become a major by 1974 and served as an operational psychologist in the 3320th retraining group at Amarillo Air Force Base following his completion of an MEd from Texas A&M University. After earning a PhD from Purdue University, he served as chief of the test review section of the Air Force Human Resources Laboratory at Lackland Air Force Base and a research psychologist at Lowry Air Force Base. He then relocated to Australia and became an exchange officer with the Royal Australian Air Force before returning to Washington, D.C., as chief of Air Force entrance standards and enlistment testing. He separated from the military in 1980 to become a Department of Defense civilian. Alongside his military endeavors, Dr. Sellman was a frequent educator at multiple universities, including St. Mary’s University, Our Lady of the Lake College, the University of Colorado at Denver and Texas Lutheran University. From 1984 to 2002, he was the director of accession policy with the Department of Defense before serving as vice president for strategic planning at the Human Resources Research Organization from 2002 until his retirement in 2015. During this time, he also earned a diploma in national and international security from Harvard University. A former president and fellow of the division of military psychology with the American Psychological Association, Dr. Sellman has contributed numerous articles to professional publications and over 60 reports to the U.S. Congress. Among the highlights of his career, he is most proud of receiving the Presidential Meritorious Executive Award from President Bill Clinton. He has also earned several other accolades, including the Civilian Distinguished Service Award and Certificate of Merit Award from the Department of Defense, the U.S. Selective Service System Meritorious Achievement Award, the Air Force Systems Command Technical Achievement Award, and the Air Force Human Resources Laboratory Scientific Achievement Award.
