Gordon, RN, is a renowned nurse and nursing educator who has thoroughly enjoyed her profession. Finding passion in helping others, she loved interacting with patients and staff members alike. A former head nurse of allergy/immunology service at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio from 2005 until her retirement in 2007, she previously served the medical center as a health nurse educator in the Health Promotion Center, charge nurse of orthopedics, and charge nurse of obstetrics beginning in 1990. During her tenure at Brooke, she also served as a nurse of labor and delivery at the Wilford Hall Air Force Medical Center of Lackland Air Force Base in 1996. Prior to these appointments, she was employed by such facilities as Gorgas Army Hospital in Panama, Eisenhower Army Medical Center in Georgia, Noble Army Hospital in Alabama, and the San Antonio VA Hospital, among others. Also involved in education, she was an instructor of clinical nursing at Jacksonville State University from 1984 to 1985. The recipient of a diploma from Grady Memorial Hospital, a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the Medical College of Georgia and a Master of Health Sciences from the Armstrong campus of Georgia Southern University, Ms. Gordon is a registered nurse in two states. Previously, she served as Captain in the U.S. Army and Colonel in the U.S. Army Reserve, and maintained affiliation as chair and instructor of the Fort McClellan chapter of the American Red Cross in the 1980s. Currently, Ms. Gordon is a member of the Arc Angels, a group of nurses who deliver food and beverages to health care residents. She is also a member of the Army Nurse Corps Association, the National Association of Orthopaedic Nurses and Sigma Theta Tau. Honored among Outstanding Young Women in America, she has remained active in her community in retirement as a board member of the Volunteer Home Owners Association. Likewise, she is a member of a knitting and crocheting club, and she enjoys traveling, bowling, reading and ceramics in her spare time. ELLA D.
