90 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine I n the formative stages of his career, William F. Barthel Jr. served as a quality engineer. One of the first pioneers of the industry, he delved into quality assurance as opposed to quality control, which resulted in his transference into a variety of fields. At the inception of his career in 1968, he was a shop manager for Electronics Unlimited in Lake Charles, Louisiana, and later went on to be an engineer of quality control for Rockwell International in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, in 1974. Remaining with Rockwell International until 1981, he subsequently acted as a manager of quality assurance and senior engineering scientist of process control development. Following this, Mr. Barthel relocated to Andover, Massachusetts, where he was an engineering manager of process reliability for six years and engineering manager of performance assurance for four years at the Digital Equipment Corporation. Soon thereafter, he became the director of quality at Gables Engineering, Inc., where he currently serves as vice president of operations and specializes in printed circuit boards for electronic equipment. Having earned a Bachelor of Science from McNeese State University, Mr. Barthel is a U.S. Air Force veteran who served from 1958 to 1962. He remains abreast of industry developments through his affiliations with the American Institute of Chemists and the American Chemical Society. Attributing his success to having the opportunity to work in emerging fields, he has been honored multiple times for his achievements. Notably, Mr. Barthel was selected for inclusion in several editions of Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in Finance and Business, Who’s Who in Finance and Industry, Who’s Who in Science and Engineering, Who’s Who in the East, Who’s Who in the South and Southwest, and Who’s Who in the World. Married to his wife Barbara Joan since 1961, Mr. Barthel is the proud father of one son, William Frederick III. He also has one grandchild.
