182 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine TECHNOLOGY I nspired by his college roommate’s father, who was an executive in the electronics industry, C. Travis Marshall always held an interest in hand radios and radio frequencies. Specializing in government relations and marketing, he obtained a BS from the University of Notre Dame in 1948 and went on to serve as chief clerk of Firestone Tire and Rubber Company for the following three years. Thereafter, he was employed by The Hallicrafters Company as a general sales manager for over a decade before entering a new field as vice president of marketing for EF Johnson Technologies, Inc., for five years. For the remainder of his career, Mr. Marshall worked for Motorola, Inc., in myriad roles, including vice president of marketing operations, director of government relations in the communications division, vice president of government relations, and finally as senior vice president of government relations until his retirement in 1992. In retirement, Mr. Marshall still serves as a telecommunications consultant and is a trustee of the Maryland Youth Symphony Orchestra. He was appointed as an ambassador by President George H.W. Bush to head a 35-person U.S. delegation to the International Telecommunication Union Conference in Geneva, Switzerland. Known for his patriotism, he served as second lieutenant in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and as first lieutenant in the 28th Infantry in Germany. Mr. Marshall is the former treasurer and vice president and current treasurer emeritus of the Electronics Industries Association, having also lent his time to the Burning Tree Country Club, the Columbia Country Club, the Metropolitan Club and the Crystal Downs Country Club. In recognition of all of his accomplishments, the Electronics Industries Association presented him with the Distinguished Service Award in 1987. Mr. Marshall, who is married with three children and two grandchildren, enjoys sailing and golfing in his spare time.
