122 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine EDUCATION A n alumnus of the prestigious Harvard University, John G. Simon earned a Bachelor of Arts in 1950. He subsequently attended Yale University, receiving a Bachelor of Laws in 1953. Admitted to the New York State Bar Association the same year, he was drafted into the U.S. Army, serving to the rank of first lieutenant until being discharged in 1956. From there, Mr. Simon served as an assistant to the general counsel in the Office of the Secretary of the U.S. Army for two years before being hired by Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison in 1958. Mr. Simon joined the faculty at Yale Law School in 1962. Beginning his tenure as a professor of law in 1967, he then was promoted to Augustus Lines Professor of Law in 1976 and held the position until attaining emeritus status in 2003. During his tenure, he was also the acting dean and deputy dean. Locally involved as well, Mr. Simon has been the president of the Taconic Foundation since 1967, member of the graduate board at The Harvard Crimson newspaper since 1950 and vice chairman of the board of directors of the Cooperative Assistance Fund since 1977. Other civic endeavors to his credit have included leadership roles at the Rockefeller Archives Center, the Foundation Center and the Open Society Institute of New York. The co-author of “The Ethical Investor” in 1972, Mr. Simon maintains membership with Phi Beta Kappa. Interested in his profession due to witnessing the honorable actions and decisions of high profile attorneys that were documented in the media, he cites working on the Army- McCarthy hearings as a career highlight. Working alongside renowned lawyer Joseph N. Welch, Mr. Simon appreciates that he played a small role in history. Accruing numerous accolades during his career, Mr. Simon was recognized with a Certificate of Achievement by the Department of the Army in 1956. Likewise, he was selected for inclusion in Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in American Education, Who’s Who in American Law, Who’s Who in the East and Who’s Who in the World. JOHN G.
