145 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine M uriel M. Zimmermann commenced her career at Chaffey College in Rancho Cucamonga, California, in 1974, serving as a faculty member. Attaining emeritus status in 2004, she served in myriad other roles during her tenure, including faculty senate chair from 1980 to 1981, division chair of life sciences from 1981 to 1990, division chair of physical education from 1985 to 1990 and coordinator of the environmental hazardous materials technology program from 1993 to 1996. At the conclusion of her career, she was the dean of physical, life and health sciences for eight years. During her tenure as division chair of life sciences and physical education, Ms. Zimmermann maintained curriculum in two major academic areas; aided the faculty in establishing a geography program; maintained support curriculum for Allied Health Programs; spearheaded new curriculum in sociobiology, metabolism and nutrition, and horticulture; and helped the physical education faculty develop a wellness program. To improve community relations, she also spearheaded the development of an annual science fair. Likewise, she developed a nursing assistant program during her tenure as dean, as well as helped the programs blossom by 10-50%. Drawing upon an Associate of Arts from Chaffey College, and Bachelor of Science and Master of Science from California State Polytechnic University, Pomona, Ms. Zimmermann also completed advanced coursework in statistics, computer programming, mycology and anaerobic bacteriology. She has been certified in hazardous materials management by the University of California Davis since 1993. Amember of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, Ms. Zimmermann has accrued numerous accolades. A building at Chaffey College was dedicated in her honor in 2007, and Chaffey College honored her with the Meritorious Service Award, Academy Excellence Award and Presidential Excellence Award, having also been namedAlumni of the Year, Faculty Speaker of the Year and Faculty Lecturer by the Faculty Senate. She was a keynote speaker for a presentation through the American Association of University Women at Fullerton College in careers in mathematics and science. MURIEL M.
