150 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine B etty H. Gaddis knew from the time she was 5 years old that she wanted to be a teacher. Working diligently through college, she received a Bachelor of Science from Cumberland College in 1963 and Master of Arts from Union College in 1976. Commencing her career after receiving a bachelor’s degree, Ms. Gaddis served as an elementary school teacher for the Knox County Board of Education in Gray and Corbin, Kentucky, for the length of her career until her retirement in 1996. After retirement, she continued to serve as a consultant for the board until 2001. A teacher of mathematics workshops and volunteer at various food pantries since 1977, Ms. Gaddis has accrued numerous accolades in recognition of her prestige in the field. Named a Kentucky Colonel, she received a Reading Award and Scientific Grant from the State of Kentucky. To remain abreast of developments in the field, she also maintained affiliation with the National Education Association and the Kentucky Retired Teachers Association. In her spare time, she enjoys drawing, crocheting, knitting, gardening, writing and singing in her church choir. ELEMENTARY SCHOOL EDUCATOR (RETIRED) Knox County Board of Education Gray, KY N ow retired, Dr. Norman B. Ferris has been a professor emeritus since 1997. Employed with Middle Tennessee State University since 1962, he was first an assistant professor before ascending the ranks to associate professor and full professor, serving as the latter for 28 years. Teaching history and conducting historical research, he began as an instructor at Emory University and assistant professor at the University of Southwestern Louisiana. Dr. Ferris holds an Associate of Arts from Lamar College, Bachelor of Arts from George Washington University, Bachelor of Laws from the Blackstone Law School, and Master of Arts and PhD from Emory University. He was an elected delegate to the Democratic National Convention in 2004 and chair of the Rutherford County Democratic Party from 2001 to 2005. A prolific author, Dr. Ferris was nominated for the Pulitzer Prize in 1977 and was a recipient of the Claxton Award in 1991 and Sumberg Award in 1996, both bestowed by the American Association of University Professors.
