153 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine A retired professional counselor at Atlanta Public Schools, Dr. Verdree Lockhart Sr. amassed 51 years in his career. Inspired to enter education and counseling by his high school principal, he served as a teacher and counselor for Jefferson County High School in Louisville, Georgia, in 1949, holding the role for 14 years. From there, he served the Georgia Department of Education, Atlanta University, Phillips Community College and the Environmental Protection Agency in increasingly responsible roles. Although retired, he remains a member of the Mayor’s Task Force on Public Education and the forest resource council at Tuskegee University. Drawing upon a Bachelor of Science in agricultural education from Tuskegee University and Master of Arts in administration and supervision andPhD in guidance and counseling fromAtlantaUniversity, Dr. Lockhart has been president of the Atlanta University Consortium chapter of Phi Delta Kappa since 1988. He maintains affiliation with the National Education Association, Georgia Association of Educators and American Counseling Association. He was named Teacher of the Year by the Georgia Chamber of Commerce and was twice the recipient of the Georgia Governor’s Medallion Award. PROFESSIONAL COUNSELOR (RETIRED) Atlanta Public Schools Atlanta, GA A respected primary school teacher for several decades, Sharon Kaiser-Botsai served various school districts in Honolulu prior to her retirement from teaching in 2003. Most recently a kindergarten teacher at Wai’alae Elementary Public Charter School from 1997 until her retirement, she was previously a teacher of students with limited English proficiency at the Kaahumanu School, teacher of staff instruction with the Honolulu Department of Education, part- time lecturer at Honolulu Community College and head teacher at Waiokeola and Central Union Preschool. Impressively, Ms. Kaiser-Botsai was the first recipient of the Phyllis Loveless Excellence in Teaching Award in 1979, which opened numerous doors for her professionally. A workshop leader of many conferences of the Hawaii Association for the Education of Young Children, as well as a workshop leader on local and national levels, Ms. Kaiser-Botsai has served as a validator of the accreditation program for the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). Likewise, she is a two-time author and dedicated volunteer of Angel Network Charities. She continues to teach as a substitute of young children and welcomes this award.
