155 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine M athematics has always come easily to Charles H. Neumann, and upon discovering his passion for the subject, he decided to pursue it in his academic studies. Earning an Associate of Arts from Alpena Community College in 1962 and a Bachelor of Science in mathematics and Master of Arts in Teaching in mathematics from Michigan State University in 1964 and 1965, respectively, he began his career serving as a science teacher at Alpena Public Schools. Escalating through the ranks, he served Alpena Community College as an instructor and department chair between 1966 and 1984. Beginning in 1984, he served as a professor of mathematics and statistics at Oakland Community College until attaining emeritus status in 2009. Affiliated with the Michigan Education Special Services Association since 1975, Mr. Neumann has served the organization as a trustee, president and vice president, a role he continues to hold today. Noting that their programs are exceptional, he is proud of his active involvement. He also maintains membership with the Blue Cross Blue Shield Board of Michigan and the Vision Services Plan Board of Michigan, Ohio and Kentucky. PROFESSOR EMERITUS Oakland Community College Clarkston, MI I nvolved in academia for nearly 40 years, Dr. Charles Blanchard Millham is a mathematician and educator who started out as an instructor in mathematics at Iowa State University in 1962, having risen to assistant professor in 1964. Holding the position for two years, Dr. Millham subsequently relocated to Pullman, Washington, where he served Washington State University as an assistant professor from 1966 to 1969. He then became an associate professor in 1969 and full professor in 1974 until his retirement from academia in 2001. During his tenure, Dr. Millham served two terms as acting chair of computer science and one term as chair of environmental science and regional planning, and has sat on multiple campus-wide and departmental committees. He supervised 50 Master of Science students and advised four PhD dissertation students. The recipient of several awards and an endowed scholarship in his name, Dr. Millham is also a prolific author, first co-authoring “Mathematics and Statistics for Economists” in 1969 with subsequent editions in Spanish and Japanese. He is currently working on a novel titled “A River Boyhood and its Academic Aftermath,” regarding his learned values from his upbringing in Guttenberg, Iowa.
