158 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine I nfluenced by his parents’ educational background, Dr. Ning Xiang desired to be an educator in an institution of higher education. Born in Tianjin, China, he earned a bachelor’s degree in engineering at Tianjin University in 1982. From there, he went to Germany, for graduate study in the Department of Electronic Engineering at the Ruhr-University Bochum from 1984 to 1990, where he received a DEng in 1990. From 1998 to 2003, he was a research scientist for the National Center for Physical Acoustics at the University of Mississippi. He has also been a professor of acoustics at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York, since 2003. Conducting research in architectural acoustics and signal processing, Dr. Xiang co-authored a textbook “Acoustics for Engineers” in 2008 and edited the books “Acoustics, Information, and Communication” in 2015 and “Architectural Acoustics Handbook” in 2017. Recognized by the Acoustical Society of America, he earned the Wallace Clement Sabine Award in 2014. Looking toward the future, he intends to write more books and journal publications and experience more growth in science. He hopes to bring a scientific perspective to architectural acoustics and educate more graduate students. PROFESSOR OF ACOUSTICS Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute Troy, NY A former organist and music assistant at the First Baptist Church in Muskogee, Oklahoma, until 2018, Nancy S. Shelton has continued to teach piano privately since 1976. Prior to these endeavors, she was a choral and string teacher at Muskogee Public Schools from 1970 to 1971 and teaching fellow in piano at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary from 1973 to 1974. Inspired to delve into music by her own interest in piano at the age of 5, she was further encouraged by her piano teacher to play hymns at church. Highly educated, Ms. Shelton holds a Bachelor of Music in music education from Oklahoma Baptist University, and a Master of Music in church music and Master of Religious Education from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. In light of her exceptional undertakings, she was named Teacher of the Year by the Oklahoma Music Teachers Association in 2009, which she cites as an absolute career highlight. Likewise, she was recognized as an Oklahoma Baptist University Profile in Excellence in 2011 and was listed in the 23rd and 24th editions of Who’s Who of American Women between 2002 and 2004.
