159 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine by a retired engineer from CBS, who eventually served Mr. Aaland as a mentor. He taught Mr. Aaland everything he needed to know about television. After leaving the U.S. Air Force, Mr. Aaland served as a staff engineer for WLOX-TV in Biloxi, Mississippi, and KWGN-TV in Denver. From there, he rose through the ranks to assistant chief engineer and director of engineering for KWGN-TV. For the following five years, he served as director of operations and engineering for KCET-TV in Los Angeles, having thereafter held the roles of scientist and engineer for DirecTV International under Hughes Communications, Inc., in El Segundo, California, from 1995 to 1996. From there, he served DirecTV as the director of operations and engineering in Long Beach, California, from 1996 to 2003. Concluding his career in 2005, he was the director of operations for Set Media in Burbank, California, for one year. Drawing upon a Bachelor of Science from the University of Colorado Denver, Mr. Aaland holds an FCC first class license and is certified through the Society of Broadcast Engineers. Involved significantly in the industry, he has served the Society of Television Engineers in multiple capacities since 1977, including as chairman, secretary and president of his local chapter. Likewise, he sat on the board of directors and is a life member of the Society of Broadcast Engineers, as well as a member of the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers. Among the notable highlights of his career, Mr. Aaland is proudest of developing the center for DirecTV in Latin America and Long Beach, including installation and operation. He is especially grateful to have been afforded the opportunity to direct and delegate tasks to his team. P hilip A. Aaland joined the U.S. Air Force in 1961, notably serving in South Korea in 1963.
