186 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine D esiring to work with young children from an early age, Mary B. Armstrong commenced her career in 1966 as a teacher for grades K-2 at the Northside Independent School District in San Antonio for 20 years. Escalating to the rank of supervisor of kindergarten and social studies at the school district in 1986, a role she held until 1992, she simultaneously dedicated her time to University of Texas at San Antonio as a teaching associate. Joining the faculty at UT San Antonio in 1993, she concluded her career as a director of certificates at the university in 1998. Ms. Armstrong holds a Bachelor of Science from Texas Women’s University and Master of Arts from the University of Texas at San Antonio. She became a certified supervisor through Our Lady of the Lake University the following year. A lecturer in the field, she sat on the board of directors of the Institute of Texan Cultures from 1996 to 1998 and was a member of the standing committee on teacher education at the University of Texas at San Antonio from 1994 to 1998. Likewise, she was involved in the Division of Education and Consortium of Local Districts at the university. A contributor of articles to esteemed journals, Ms. Armstrong maintains affiliation with the National Association for the Education of Young Children, the International Association of Childhood and Phi Delta Kappa. As a testament to her success in the industry, she was named Northside Teacher of the Year by the Northside Teachers Association and won the Award for Distinguished Teacher and Trinity Prize for Outstanding Educator from the Northside Independent School District. Notably, she received the Outstanding Teacher Award from the University of Texas at San Antonio during the latter quarter of her career. Married to John D. Armstrong for many years, Ms. Armstrong is the proud mother of three children and grandmother of four grandchildren. In her spare time, she enjoys gardening, art, music, antiques and crafting. She has been highlighted in the seventh edition of Who’s Who in American Education and 25th edition of Who’s Who of American Women. MARY B.
