197 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine H oward R. Hechtman’s career can be measured by his devotion to the same company for more than 40 years, a true example of the hardworking New Yorker. Mr. Hechtman was a financial analyst for the New York City Transit Authority from 1973 until his retirement in 2016, where he focused on budget investigation and hiring quotas. The NYC Transit Authority is part of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, most famous for the historic New York City subway system, as well as buses, ferries and various modes of transit. It is the busiest and largest transit system in North America with daily ridership of up to eight million trips. Other work experiences to Mr. Hechtman’s credit include as a graduate teaching assistant at Adelphi University, as a trainee in brokerage and insurance at Asiel &Co., and as an actuarial analyst at the National Health and Welfare Retirement Association (now defunct). The New York native stayed local for his education, as he received his Bachelor of Science from Brooklyn Polytechnic Institute (now known as the New York University Polytechnic School of Engineering) in 1968 and then went to Adelphi University for his Master of Science in physics in 1970 and his Master of Business Administration in management, with distinction, in 1972. He was also granted Certification in Labor Relations from Cornell University in 1999, and then Advanced Certification in 2000. Mr. Hechtman additionally served as a captain in the New York Guard, the Division of Military and Naval Affairs, and is a member of the Society of American Military Engineers and the Gold Circle of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He is also a life director and member of the alumni board of directors at the Polytechnic Alumni Association and a delegate at the Civil Service Technical Guild. Mr. Hechtman is also the recipient of three awards: the Certificate of Merit from the Republican National Committee in 1990 and Patron of the Arts from the Society of Theater Arts Resources in 1989 and 1990. All of these recognitions come from Mr. Hechtman’s dedication to his endeavors, but he attributes his success to God’s wondrous handiwork of the universe.
