45 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine D r. Elizabeth Irene French is a talented violinist with five decades of experience to her credit. A former music teacher in Tennessee and Alabama, she has played as first violinist in a number of orchestras, including the Kingsport Symphony Orchestra, Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, Knoxville Symphony Orchestra, Memphis Symphony Orchestra and Mobile Symphony Orchestra, serving the latter from 1974 until her retirement in 2012. Likewise, she was a concertmaster with the Riviera Symphony Orchestra and Chorus for one year and regularly performs sextets and trios at local venues. Alongside her musical career, Dr. French was a noted professor of biology at the University of Mobile from 1994 until her retirement from teaching in 2008, having previously held roles of associate professor and assistant professor beginning in 1973. Civically involved as well, she has been a Eucharistic minister since 2016 and is involved with the Daughters of Mary and the Schumann Music Club, where she has served as past president and remains on its advisory board. In retirement, Dr. French continues to serve as a violin teacher and freelance violinist. Fleming is a noted columnist, author and former educator who has been serving as a columnist in “AWalk Through History” for the Fort Collins Coloradoan Newspaper since 2013. First authoring “Fort Collins: A Pictorial History” in 1985, which was highly acclaimed in the Fort Collins area, she has subsequently written and co-written more than seven other books, including the fictional novel “My Name Is Meggie” in 2017, which can be purchased on Amazon. She currently has a new novel slated for release in fall 2019, titled “Road Trip.” Prior vocational appointments to Ms. Fleming’s credit include training coordinator for the Environmental Protection Agency, adjunct English professor for Metro State University and various community colleges in Colorado, and an editor of the Fort Collins Coloradoan Newspaper. A frequent presenter on local history, she is a guest historian and guest lecturer as well. In light of her outstanding undertakings, she won First Place in Fiction from the Denver Women’s Press Club and Third Place in Investigative Reporting from the Colorado Press Association.
