49 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine W ith more than 40 years of professional experience, Mr. Cahill served Xcel Energy in several roles between 1964 and 2005, including manager, principal of customer relations and economic developer. In addition to his primary roles, he was the treasurer of the Chaves County Development Foundation and the Roswell Chamber of Commerce, having also served the City of Roswell Planning Commission as commissioner. He is also a former board member of the Pecos Valley Rotary Club and has been serving the Amarillo Church of Christ as an elder since 2014. Mr. Cahill began his career as a student at Amarillo College, where he obtained an Associate of Science in 1974. He then joined West Texas A&M University, earning a Bachelor of Business Administration in 1985. He has been certified as an economic development advisor. Affiliated with Eastern New Mexico Community College, he sat on the advisory board from 1998 to 2004, having also been involved with the New Mexico Work Force Development Board by Governor Johnson from 1998 to 2003. Throughout his career,Mr. Cahill has been recognized for his achievements. The recipient of a Chamber Support Award from the Roswell Chamber of Commerce, he was named a Workhorse of the Year by the Roosevelt County Commission and Caring Citizen of the Month by the Chaves County Commission. The Veterans of Foreign Wars also gave him an Award of Appreciation for services rendered to the community, having also received a plaque for dedicated service to the citizens of Portales, New Mexico. Among the highlights of his career, Mr. Cahill is perhaps most renowned for receiving recognition by Governor Bruce King for his economic development work in 1990, having been appointed by Governor Johnson to the Workforce Board of Economic Development. In addition, he helped developed a plan that brought a milk plant to Portales, which created many jobs for the community. Subsequently, the Mayor of Roswell, New Mexico, issued a proclamation and declared May 10, 2005 to be Laurence Roy Cahill Jr. Day. He has been featured in numerous honors publications, including the 58th edition of Who’s Who in America.
