85 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine EDUCATION D r. Myrna L. Fischman has always enjoyed the ambiance of theworld of business. The director of theCenter for Accounting andTax Education and the School of Professional Accountancy at Long Island University (LIU) Brooklyn, shewas also a self-employed accountant inNewYork. Spending decades as a professor of accounting, taxation and law, she formerly taught at the Borough of Manhattan Community College, where she developed a new business machine course and curriculum and developed articulation agreements. Prior to these appointments, Dr. Fischman taught at Center Commercial High School and LIU, commencing her career in 1954 as a chief accountant investigator to the Queens District Attorney. Obtaining a Bachelor of Science andMaster of Science fromBaruch College, Dr. Fischman earned a PhD at New York University in 1976. During her tenure at LIU Brooklyn, she introduced the volunteer income tax assistant IRS program and founded the Center for Accounting and Tax Education, which brings continuing professional education to practicing accountants and attorneys. Likewise, she developed the 150-hour BS/MS Accounting Program in preparation for the CPA Exam, created the Myrna L. Fischman Excellence in Accounting Scholarship, andwas cited in The CPA Journal, which is published by the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants (NYSSCPA). Dr. Fischman maintains affiliation with the public relations committee of NYSSCPA and the New York chapter of the Institute of Management Accountants. The former president of the NewYork chapter of the Association of Government Accountants, the American Accounting Association and the Brooklyn chapter of NYSSCPA, she was also the longtime vice president of the Doctorate Association of New York Educators. The recipient of a Special Award for 40 Years of Service to the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program from the IRS in 2014, Dr. Fischman also earned a Lifetime Achievement Award from Soroptimist International in 1997, the Dr. Emanuel Saxe Outstanding CPA in Education Award from NYSSCPA for the fiscal year of 1994-1995, and the Meritorious Service Award from the Community Service Society in 1969. However, the highlights of her career have always been watching the success of her students. MYRNA L.
