16 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine I n light of his early interest in horticulture, James A. Trent pursued formal education at Farmingdale State College, where he earned an Associate in Applied Science in 1966. From there, he attended the University of Georgia, obtaining a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture in 1969. At the inception of his career in 1969, he served as a junior landscape architect for the New York City Department of Public Works before becoming an assistant landscape architect for the New York City Department of Design and Construction. Remaining with the department for the entirety of his career, Mr. Trent ascended the ranks to chief of the professional contracts section, assistant to the director of the Bureau of Building Design and deputy chief of the professional contracts management section before settling into his final role of chief of the professional contracts section. During his tenure, he was also the project manager of the architectural specialties unit and chief of the professional contracts section of the New York City Department of General Services. Since 1977, Mr. Trent has been the vice president of the Joint Bellerose Business District Development Corporation, having also served his community as a member of the preservation committee and second vice president of the Bowne House Historical Society since 2013 and 2017, respectively. He is a president and founder of the Queens County Farm Museum, president of the Poppenhusen Institute and past board of directors member of the Municipal Engineers of the City of New York. He has been the editor and author of The Creedmoor Civic since 1994, having also authored numerous articles in esteemed journals and magazines. Recently receiving a Certificate of Recognition from Sen. Leroy Comrie in 2016, Mr. Trent also earned the Queens Impact Award from the Times- Ledger Newspaper, the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Queens Village Republican Club and a Proclamation from the City Council for work with the Bellerose Business District, among other awards and plaques. However, he notes the highlight of his career was founding the Queens County Farm Museum, which is the second-busiest museum in Queens County. JAMES A.
