260 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine D olores E. Winkler is a retired health facility administrator who amassed 46 years in her profession prior to her retirement in 1995. Discovering her affinity for mathematics from an early age, she graduated from the Milwaukee Business Institute in 1949 before settling into her first position as an accountant for the Curative Rehabilitation Center (now Curative Care Network) in Milwaukee, a role she held until 1960. In 1968, she began her tenure at West Allis Memorial Hospital as a staff accountant before being promoted to chief accountant in 1970. Transitioning roles, she served as a reimbursement analyst from 1978 to 1985 before becoming the director of budgets and reimbursement from 1985 until retirement. Desiring to make her parents proud, Ms. Winkler worked diligently to emulate her parents’ success during the Great Depression in the 1930s. Securing a scholarship to attend Messmer High School – a private Roman Catholic high school in Milwaukee – her tenacity and ambition to prosper translated well into her adult life. Her unwavering dedication to her career resulted in several executive roles with various organizations, including the Healthcare Financial Management Association, where she was president from 1989 to 1990. Previously, she served as a two-time president of the Institute of Management Accountants from 1983 to 1984 and again from 1988 to 1989. Likewise, she was the national director of the institute from 1986 to 1988. In light of her exceptional undertakings in financial management, Ms. Winkler accrued a number of accolades and honors. Most recently receiving the Medal of Honor from the Healthcare Financial Management Association in 1993, she was presented from the association with a Muncie Gold Award in 1989, Reeves Silver Award in 1986 and Follmer Bronze Award in 1980. Punctuating these prestigious awards, she received the Award of Excellence from the Institute of Management Accountants in 1989. Happily married to her husband Donald James Winkler since 1951, Ms. Winkler is the proud mother of one son, David John. She also has one granddaughter, Sarah Catherine.
