275 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine B ernard F. Ashe, Esq., is a retired labor arbitrator and mediator who practiced law in Albany, New York, for 45 years prior to his retirement in 2016. A former general counsel for New York State United Teachers and assistant general counsel for the International Union of United Auto Workers, he served as an attorney for the National Labor Relations Board in Washington, DC, in the early 1960s. At the inception of his career in 1956, he was a teacher at the Baltimore City Public Schools. During his tenure, Mr. Ashe served several universities as an adjunct faculty member, including Fordham University School of Law, Roger Williams University School of Law and the Cornell School of Industrial and Labor Relations. Drawing upon a Bachelor of Arts and JD from Howard University, Mr. Ashe sat on the board of directors and served as first vice president of the Urban League of Albany. Likewise, he is a past trustee of Adelphi University and the New York State Lawyers Fund for Client Protection. Affiliated with the American Bar Association since 1961, he served the organization on the standing committee on client protection, the drafting committee, the Senior Lawyers Division Council, the accreditation committee, the executive committee and the board of governors, among others. In recognition of his outstanding contributions to law, Mr. Ashe received the Arvid Anderson Public Employment Lawyer of the Year Award from the section of labor and employment at the American Bar Association in 2017. In addition, he received the National Weinberg Award from Wayne State University, the Thurgood Marshall Justice Award from the Albany chapter of the NAACP and the American Arbitration Whitney North Seymour Senior Medal. Married to his wife Grace Nannette Ashe since 1963, Mr. Ashe is the proud father of two sons and grandfather of three grandchildren. In his spare time, he enjoys reading and traveling. Mr. Ashe was selected for inclusion in Who’s Who in Finance and Business, Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in American Law, Who’s Who in the East and Who’s Who in the World.
