Drawing upon a Bachelor of Arts in economics and Master of Business Administration in marketing from the University of Michigan, Mr. Simpson formerly served in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve from 1957 to 1963. He attributes his success to his collaboration with likeminded individuals and colleagues – he notes that he would not be where he is today without their dedication and contributions. Running a separate business in his spare time, Mr. Simpson is a knowledgeable breeder of thoroughbred horses, having held the role since 1978. He has been married to his wife Barbara Ann since 1963 and is the proud father of two children, Leslie and Elizabeth. He also has one grandchild, Garryn. Born in Albany, New York, he currently resides in Wellington, Florida. M ichael Simpson is a noted metals service center executive who amassed over 45 years of experience in his field. Serving A.M. Castle & Co. from 1968 to 2012, he first sat on the board of directors before becoming president of the Hy-Alloy Steels Co. Division from 1974 to 1979. While on the board of directors – a role he held for 39 years – he also served as chairman of the board from 1979 until his retirement in 2004, when he attained emeritus status. He subsequently held the title for the following eight years. A past chairman of the executive committee of the Steel Service Center Institute (now known as the Metal Service Center Institute), Mr. Simpson is a life trustee of the Rush University Medical Center, having previously served the medical center as vice chairman and member of the executive committee.
