319 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine in 1984. Six years later, he acquired his MS in physics from Kiev State University in Ukraine, and then he received his PhD in theoretical physics from Tel Aviv University in Israel in 1996. Before he began working at the Lab, Dr. Burakovsky spent one year as general physics tutor at Tel Aviv University. In 1995, he had the opportunity to join the Theoretical Division of the Los Alamos National Laboratory in New Mexico. He began as a postdoctoral fellow, and today he is a staff member and a scientist, roles he has held for more than 20 years. Although he has already performed these jobs for a long time, Dr. Burakovsky says he hopes he is still active in research, specifically elective science, for another 10 years or more. One of Dr. Burakovsky’s greatest achievements is the development of the unified analytic melt- shear model for melting temperature at all densities and the shear modulus at all densities and all temperatures from zero to melt. Another one is the analytic model of the shock Hugoniot at all pressures for any substance. He is also proud of the development of the Z methodology for phase diagram studies, including direct Z method for the calculation of melting curves, and inverse Z method for the calculation of solid-solid phase boundaries. He says the greatest thing about his studies is that he was able to switch his field many times, all while still contributing to cutting edge research. While his work is mainly analytical, Dr. Burakovsky has had his hand in contributing to creative works. He is the author, co-author and contributor to more than 150 peer- reviewed papers, preprints and conference presentations. He also enjoys reading, walking and spending time with family, including his wife Maya, two sons Arik and Naftali, and daughter-in-law Maria. D r. Leonid Burakovsky began his scientific career in his home country of Ukraine and made his way throughout Eastern Europe and the Middle East before settling in the United States. He began his studies in Moscow, Russia, at the Moscow Institute of Steel and Alloys, where he received his BS in engineering LEONID BURAKOVSKY, PHD PHYSICIST, RESEARCHER Los Alamos National Laboratory Los Alamos, NM SCIENCES, PHARMACEUTICALS AND BIOTECHNOLOGY
