321 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine D r. Paul S. Duffey is a pronounced microbiologist and educator who amassed 44 years of experience in his field prior to his retirement in 2018. A past research scientist with the California Department of Health Care Services in Berkeley from 1981 to 2018, he previously served the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio as an assistant professor of microbiology from 1976 to 1981. At the inception of his career in 1974, he was an assistant professor of research at the University of Michigan Medical School for two years. Drawing upon a Bachelor of Arts from San Jose State University and PhD from the University of Michigan, Dr. Duffey was also a longtime member of the Governor’s Task Force on Biotechnology in Sacramento, California, from 1985 to 2018. A certified public health microbiologist in the state of California, he was initially inspired to enter the profession by a high school science teacher. Upon taking biology classes during his undergraduate studies, he developed an interest in learning about blood disease, particularly how to diagnose and treat blood disorders. A member of the Northern California chapter of the American Society for Microbiology, Dr. Duffey also maintains affiliation with the New York Academy of Sciences, the American Association of Immunologists and the Northern California Public Health Microbiologists Association. Among the notable highlights of his career, he is proudest of the work he conducted in New York, having commuted to the state from Michigan every few weeks early on in his career. He is also grateful to have been mentored by several distinguished individuals throughout his career. As a testament to his success, Dr. Duffey was selected for inclusion in the 23rd editionofWho’sWho in theWest in 1992. Born inOakland, California, on November 24, 1939, he currently resides in Moraga, California. In his spare time, he enjoys assembling computers and writing software. PAUL S.
