323 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine B eginning his tenure with the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in 1972 as a physicist, Dr. Michael Dennis Feit has been serving as a visiting scientist of the professionals program since 2013. During his time spent with the laboratory, he has also been leader of the laser damage modeling group in the National Ignition Facility; leader for theoretical optics, short pulse lasers, applications and technology; leader of the optical physics group in physics and space technology; adjunct faculty member in the Department of Applied Science; co-director of the summer school on chaos in physical systems; and research project leader in the Undergraduate Summer Institute. Earlier in his career, he served as a research associate in the Department of Physics at the University of Illinois and research and teaching assistant at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Drawing upon a Bachelor of Science in physics, with honors, from Lehigh University, Dr. Feit also holds a PhD in physics from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Previously, he sat on the organizing committee for the International Conference on the Physics of Chaos and Systems Far fromEquilibriumand the physics committee with the associateship program for the National Research Council. A contributing author of articles to more than 250 publications, he was also the scientific editor of Inertial Confinement Fusion Quarterly and associate editor of OSA Optics Express. Dr. Feit holds several patents in the field and has been honored several times for his contributions to theworld of physics. A fellowof the American Physical Society and Optical Society of America, he recently received the Physical and Life Sciences Award, the Photon Science Award and the Directorate Award from Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. Other accolades to his credit include the Research and Development 100 Award, the Chemistry and Materials Science Associate Director Award, the Programs Award, the Performance Award and the Physics Distinguished Achievement Award. Married with two children and two grandchildren, Dr. Feit is a celebrated Marquis listee. Hehas been included inWho’sWho inScience andEngineering, Who’s Who in the West andWho’s Who in America.
