325 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine E mployed with Bristol-Myers Squibb for 23 years, Efren William Gonzalez commenced his tenure with the company in 1967 as a manager of technical communications for two years before ascending the ranks to manager of science information services from 1969 to 1976. From there, he served as manager of research quality compliance from 1977 to 1983 before becoming the director of research and development administration from 1982 until his retirement in 1990. Prior to his tenure with Bristol-Myers Squibb, Mr. Gonzalez served Grove Laboratories as the director of technical communications, the administrative assistant to the vice president of research and development, and a technical librarian between 1956 and 1967. Likewise, he served in librarianship positions with Nepera Chemical Co., the New York Naval Shipyard, the Military Sea Transportation Service and the Carroll Club of New York City. Alongside his primary career responsibilities, he was an adjunct professor at Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey, an advisory committee member with the U.S. Copyright Office and a council member on library education with the New Jersey Department of Education. Drawing upon a Bachelor of Arts in philosophy and biology from Iona College and Master of Library Science from Columbia University, Mr. Gonzalez maintained affiliation with the Special Libraries Association, where he served as director, president, chairman of the copyright special committee and copyright law implementation committee, and New Jersey chapter representative to the planning committee. Likewise, he was affiliated with the Pharmaceuticals Manufacturers Association, the National Library Association, the Association of Research Librarian, and the Research and Development Council of New Jersey. As a testament to his success, Mr. Gonzalez was named to the Special Libraries Association Hall of Fame in 1991. Notably, he was selected for inclusion in the 44th through 50th editions of Who’s Who in America between 1986 and 1995. In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with his family, listening to jazz music and studying classical music.
