332 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine from 2010 to 2013. Dr. Leclair was twice president of the Central New England Society for Clinical Laboratory Science, past chair of the American Society for Medical Technology Education and Research Fund, and served as editor-in-chief of the Clinical Laboratory Science Journal from 2001 to 2008 and again from 2013 to 2015. She authored chapters in three different hematology textbooks, published a number of articles and editorials, and has given over 200 presentations in hematology, hemostasis and ethics. In light of her outstanding contributions to medical sciences, Dr. Leclair received the Hero of Medicine Award from the International Myelproliferative Neoplasms Foundation and Cure Magazine in 2017. She twice received the ASCLS Hematology Scientific Assembly Award in 1987 and 2018, the Lifetime Achievement Award from ASCLS in 2015 and is a three-time recipient of the Robin H. Mendelson Award, the highest award in her profession. D r. Susan J. Leclair’s desire to help others, coupled with her interest in medical sciences, lead her to pursue the field of hematology. Earning a Bachelor of Science in medical technology from Stonehill College in 1968, she went on to serve Union Hospital and Morton Hospital, subsequently becoming the program director/ education coordinator of the School of Medical Technology at The Miriam Hospital until her departure in 1979. During her tenure, she earned a master’s degree in medical laboratory science from the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth in 1977. Dr. Leclair spent one year at Rhode Island Hospital as a hematology scientist before being employed by University of Massachusetts Dartmouth in 1980 as an assistant professor in the Department of Medical Laboratory Science. She became a tenured associate professor in 1984, full professor in 1991 and chancellor professor in 2002. She earned a PhD in clinical hematology at Walden University in 2001. She attained emeritus status in 2015. Continuing in other professional roles, she founded the ASCLS consumer information response team and has been its director since 2001. She served on the board of directors of the American Society for Clinical Laboratory Science SUSAN J.
