336 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine The recipient of an MPA from the University of Southern California and a second AS from Allegany College of Maryland, Dr. Stanley has authored several texts, including “Dark Vision,” “My Mother, The Earth” and “With All My Heart,” all in 1990, and “Fragments of the Journey” in 1991. He also co-authored “Environmental Management of Water Projects” in 1987 and a couple of dozen peer-reviewed articles in scientific journals. Dr. Stanley maintained affiliation with the American Chestnut Foundation until 1999, and currently serves the Southern Alleghenies Conservancy as vice chairman, Potomac River Basin Commission as commissioner, CoCoRaHS as a weather watcher, and the Bedford County Conservation District as associate director. He was the founding President of the Fairfax Audubon Society, which once held the record of the fastest- growing Audubon chapter in the U.S. and the founding paralegal for Bedford Fulton Outdoor Education, where he is currently the President. E mployedby theEnvironmental Protection Agency (EPA) for two decades, Dr. Ronald Alwin Stanley is a retired environmental scientist whose interest in the sciences stems from his upbringing. Influenced by his brother’s love for fishing, Dr. Stanley often walked alongside creeks and explored the surrounding forests and woods, thus triggering his passion for the environment. He attended the College of the Ozarks and graduated in 1959 with an AS. From there, he attended the University of Arkansas, earning a BS and MS in 1961 and 1963, respectively. After obtaining a master’s degree, Dr. Stanley served as an intern at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory for one summer before becoming a scientist at the Tennessee Valley Authority from 1964 to 1975. During his tenure, he notably received a PhD from Duke University in 1970. In 1975, he served as an assistant professor of biology at Memphis State University and the University of South Dakota before commencing his tenure at the EPA in 1976. Initially hired as a scientist and manager, he ascended the ranks to director of the Contracts Managing Group, and program manager for multi-media assessment until his retirement from the EPA in 1996. After his retirement, he taught at Frostburg State University for one year.
