During his tenure, he began serving the University at Albany as a professor in the Department of Biomedical Science in 1989 until his retirement in 2007 as professor emeritus. He served as associate chairman of the Department of Biomedical Science at the University at Albany and on the executive committee on graduate studies at Albany Medical College. Later on, he became the deputy director and director of the Wadsworth Center Office of Research between 2002 and 2007. Dr. Trimble contributed more than 80 articles to professional journals and technical manual chapters. He sat on the editorial boards of Analytical Biochemistry, Glycobiology and the Journal on Biological Chemistry. He also served on the U.S. Public Health Service-NIH Cellular Biology andPhysiology Study Section, followedby membership on the NIH Reviewer’s Reserve Panel until 1993. He served on the National Science Foundation Biochemistry Review Panel and the American Cancer Society Grant Awards Panel. He is a pioneer in isolating and characterizing marine micro-organisms that release rare metals from low-grade ores and in developing nuclear magnetic resonance protocols for determining the structure of complex carbohydrates. Dr. Trimble was the recipient of awards from the Wadsworth Center in 2005 and from the New York State Commissioner of Health in 2003 and 2005. A grantee of the National Center for Research Resources, the National Institute on General Medical Science and the National Institute on Aging, he maintains affiliation with Sigma Xi, American Association for the Advancement of Science and American Society for Microbiology. In his spare time, Dr. Trimble enjoys traveling, model railroads and shotgun sports. He was the international skeet/trap director for the New York Empire State Games from 1993 to 2001 and again from 2003 to 2008. In 1994, he won the New York State International Skeet Championship. A n alumnus of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Dr. Robert Bogue Trimble holds a BS, MS and PhD in biology.
