345 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine D r. E. Maurlea Babb was inclined to become a therapist after learning about families from her experience as a child in foster care and from her roles as a high school teacher and counselor. Dr. Babb enjoys how her career makes a difference in peoples’ lives, regardless of how big or small the difference might be. She received a Bachelor of Science in biomedical engineering in 1949 from the American Conservatory, a Master of Science in engineering in 1964 from Northern Illinois University, and a Doctor of Education in 1984 from Northern Illinois University. Dr. Babb’s career in education took off in 1950 at Midlothian Public Schools in Illinois. In 1961, she began as a counselor at Geneva High School and thenGlenbardWest High School, a role she held formore than 15 years. In 1977, Dr. Babb took a career turn; she became the owner and director of the Chrysalis Center for Individual & Family Development inWheaton. In 1993, she became the executive director of Illinois Associate Marriage & Family Therapy. Outside of her work schedule, Dr. Babb works with United Methodist Church of Glen Ellyn, is an associate conference coordinator member of American Psychotherapy, and is the vice president of Nurture & Outreach. She also maintains membership with the American Association of University Women, the Illinois Council on Family Relations, the Illinois Affiliation of Marriage and Family Therapists, the National Council on Family Relations, the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy, and the American Orthopsychiatric Association. Dr. Babb is also a frequent contributor of articles to numerous professional journals. Dr. Babb said she owes much of her success to her high school teacher, Zala Ingasol, for helping her obtain a college scholarship. She also credits her high school music teacher, her minister and her university professors for their constant support and reassurance. The life lesson that Dr. Babb can pass along to future generations is to continue having hope and to not give up. DR. E.
