Sebastian Antony Sora’s career has been abundant in opportunities, and for the majority of his career, he has served IBM, an information technology company. Dr. Sora graduated from Brooklyn College in 1964 with a BS in physics and mathematics and from Iona College in 1974 with an MBA. He also holds a PMC from Iona College and a DPS from Pace University. Dr. Sora first began working as a math modeler at Associated Universities, Inc., from 1964 to 1966 and was then offered a position as a programming manager at IBM in Yorktown, New York, serving in the position from 1966 to 1967 and again from 1970 to 1975. Punctuating those years, he was a programmer and modeler. Throughout his years at IBM, Dr. Sora has held multiple positions at the company’s various locations. In the early 1970s, he worked in Fishkill, New York, as a manager of program systems and design, and then in Harrison, New York, as an analyst on marketing models. In 1981, Dr. Sora served IBM in Germany as a senior programmer and then came back to Yorktown in 1982 to be manager of research staff for the first Josephson system. From 1984 to 1987, Dr. Sora worked in New York City as program director to the Systems Research Institute. In 1989, he was manager of the educational program, World Trade Corp. From 1990 to 2015, Dr. Sora held his final position at IBM in White Plains, New York, as manager of promotional artificial intelligence systems. Outside of his career at IBM, Dr. Sora was a Lieutenant in the U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey of the U.S. Navy from 1967 to 1970 and was president of Business Education Systems Technology from 1992 to 1995. He has also spent time teaching at Montclair State University, Pace University and Iona College and Adelphi University. The highlight of Mr. Sora’s career was being on the first computer control ship in the Navy to develop Westinghouse computers. He is amember of the IEEE and the Association for ComputingMachinery.
