105 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine A renowned Presbyterian minister, author and educator, Dr. James Lewis McLeod served the Presbyterian Church for many decades. First ordained as a minister of the church in 1963, he went on to become a minister of the First Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church of Augusta, Georgia, in 1985. He has since retired from religious teachings. During his tenure in religion, Dr. McLeod served the Georgia Public School System as a school principal and teacher of gifted students. He was also president of Brunswick Financial and the Brunswick Gallery. Currently, he is the president of The American-Scottish Institute, which works for the better understanding of Scotland and the United States. Alongside his primary responsibilities, Dr. McLeod has authored a number of works, including “The Great Dr. Waddel,” “A Season of Grace” and “The Presbyterian Tradition in the South.” He also wrote “Flannery O’Connor and Me” and a short story “The Jesus Flag,” which was chosen by the Georgia Review Magazine in 1986 for its collection of short stories, “Necessary Fiction.” He cites his writing to be the highlight of his career, beginning his journey with writing sermons. He also served the City of Brunswick as a councilman and mayor pro tempore. Dr. McLeod is a fellow of the Society of Antiquaries of Scotland and a member of the National Education Association, the Georgia Education Association, the Society of the Cincinnati and the Fulbright Alumni Association in light of his Fulbright scholarship to study at the University of Jadavapur in India. Drawing upon a Bachelor of Arts from Washington & Lee University, where he studied under world historian Arnold J. Toynbee, and Master of Arts in Teaching and Bachelor of Divinity from Emory University, he notably holds a doctorate fromMississippi State University. He also studied at Princeton Theological Seminary, Emory Divinity School, and University of Montpelier in France. Noting that the life lessons he has learned in his profession are learning tools to pass down to future generations, he believes that honesty is the most important policy. He received the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award in 2018. DR.
