29 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine S upported by 56 years of practiced experience in broadcasting, Kenneth Haines is a retired president and chief executive officer of Raycom Sports in Charlotte, North Carolina. Retiring in 2018, he held the roles for 16 consecutive years, having previously served the company as executive vice president and chief operating officer beginning in 1981. Prior to these appointments, Mr. Haines was a director of radio, television and film and director of public affairs/ university relations at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University for 11 years and an instructor of flight operations in the U.S. Army at Fort Rucker, Alabama, for two years. Starting his career in 1962, he was the news director at KORN-TV, and soon thereafter, was a station manager at KUWR Radio and general manager at KLME Radio. In retirement, Mr. Haines sits on the board of directors of Charlotte College Football and serves as executive director of the Continental Tire Ball Game. Impressively, he published a 1,064-page history of RaycomSports. To remain abreast of developments in his field, he maintained affiliation with the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education, where he served as president of the university faculty club. Likewise, he was involved with the American College Public Relations Association, the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, and the Charlotte Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Haines was named Reporter of the Year by United Press International in 1967, an Opperman Distinguished Lecturer by Dakota Wesleyan University in 1998, and an Outstanding TV Sports Executive by the All American Football Foundation in 1999. The recipient of the Golden Award from the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education in 1978, he was also named Alumnus of the Year by Dakota Wesleyan University in 2005. Married to Stephanie Marie Phelps since 1981, Mr. Haines is the proud father of one child, Avery. He enjoys sports, photography, traveling and reading in his spare time. He holds a Bachelor of Arts fromDakota Wesleyan University, Master of Arts from the University of Wyoming, Master of Science from Troy State University and certificate of advanced graduate study from Virginia Tech.
