99 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine S triving to be a journalist from a formative age, Dr. John A. Lent pursued journalism studies at Ohio University, where he received a Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in 1958 and 1960, respectively. Serving as an instructor of English and assistant professor at the West Virginia Institute of Technology from 1960 to 1962 and again from 1965 to 1966, he then became an assistant professor of journalism at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire and Marshall University. Commencing his tenure at Temple University after receiving a PhD from the University of Iowa in 1972, he served as an associate professor and full professor of communications between 1974 and 2011, when he attained emeritus status. Throughout his career, Dr. Lent taught at numerous other universities, including De La Salle College, the University of Kebangsaan, Nanjing Normal University, the Jilin College of the Arts, China Communications University, Shanghai University, the University of Western Ontario, the University of Sains Malaysia and the University of Wyoming. During his tenure at the University of Sains Malaysia, he was a founding director of the communications program. Since 2008, he has been the founding chair of the Asia Pacific Animation Comic Association (APACA) and the APACA Center. Likewise, he has been a founder and co-organizer of the Asian Youth Animation & Comics Contest since 2007. The founding editor of the International Journal of Comic Art, Dr. Lent has always held an interest in comic books. He is considered a pioneer in the field of cartooning and comics, having been an honorary member of the Association of Canadian Editorial Cartoonists. Likewise, he has authored myriad books on cartooning and communications since 1971. Dr. Lent was honored with the John A. Lent Award from the comic art section of the Popular Culture Association. The recipient of a President Award from the Popular Culture Association, he also received the John Buscema Lifetime Achievement in Comics Award, the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Asian Media and Information Community Center, and the Exceptional Award from Temple University.
