100 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine EDUCATION D r. Robert J. Levine knew from a formative age that he wanted to delve into medicine. Witnessing the trials and successes of his father, who was a general practitioner, Dr. Levine decided that medicine would be a useful profession where he could contribute to society. Later deciding to engage in academic medicine to increase his societal influence tenfold, he began his tenure at Yale University in 1964 as faculty in the Departments of Medicine and Pharmacology. Moving forward, he served the prominent university as chief of the section on clinical pharmacology, professor of medicine, lecturer of pharmacology, director of the Center for Interdisciplinary Research on AIDS, Law, Policy and Ethics, and senior fellow, co-director and co-chair of the executive committee of the Interdisciplinary Center for Bioethics. He attained emeritus status in 2015. Prior to his employment at Yale, Dr. Levine served several medical facilities in increasingly responsible roles, such as Peter Bent Brigham Hospital, the National Heart Institute, the West Haven VA Hospital and the Yale-New Haven Medical Center. Since 2008, he has also served as a consultant, having previously been a committee member for several organizations, including the Center for Disease Control and Prevent, the Department of Health and Human Services, and the Connecticut Advisory Committee on Food and Drugs. He is a diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine. Drawing upon anMD, with distinction, fromGeorgeWashington University, Dr. Levine is a fellow of the American College of Physicians, the Hastings Center and the American Association for the Advancement of Science. He has served as chair of the editorial board of IRB Review: Human Subjects Research since 2000 and authored numerous books in the field. In recognition of his successes in the industry, Dr. Levine was honored with a Distinguished Alumni Scholar Award from George Washington University, a Lifetime Achievement Award for Excellence in Research Ethics, a Lifetime Award for Excellence in Human Research Protection, and an Outstanding Achievement Medal from the Department of Health and Human Services. Likewise, he was presented with a Special Recognition Award from the Academy of Pharmaceutical Physicians and Investigators. ROBERT J.
