Since 2010, Dr. Jordan has been pursuing a PhD degree at Wayne State University. During her longstanding tenure in education, she has maintained affiliation with such prominent organizations as the NAACP, the TESOL International Association, the Michigan Council of Teachers of English, the National Council of Teachers of English and the Metropolitan Detroit Alliance of Black School Educators, among others. As a testament to her longevity in the industry, Dr. Jordan was listed in Poetic Voices of America in 1994, International Who’s Who in Education in 1987, the World’s Who’s Who of Women and the International Who’s Who of Intellectuals. Further, she was highlighted in the third volume of Men and Women of Distinction and the Dictionary of International Biography. G rowing up in Huntsville, Alabama, Dr. Zema L. Jordan developed a fascination with English, writing and language from a young age. Knowing that she always wanted to teach, she earned a Bachelor of Arts fromTennessee Agricultural and Industrial State University (now known as Tennessee State University) in 1953 before embarking on her professional path in education. At the inception of her career, she served as an English instructor at Liberty High School in Mississippi for one year before becoming an English instructor and part-time guidance counselor at Wilson Junior High School in South Carolina for the following decade. During this time, she also earned a Master of Education from Wayne State University in 1963. From there, Dr. Jordan excelled in many administrative and educational roles at such schools as Southwestern High School, Farwell High School, Richard Middle School, Hutchins Junior High School and Cooley High School, all located in Detroit. Since 1980, Dr. Jordan has been a curriculum consultant in the Professional Growth Center for Detroit Public Schools andWayne StateUniversity. Likewise, she has also been an administrative unit head at Von Steuben Middle School since 1977 and part-time English instructor at Wayne County Community College since 1969. Passionate about ZEMA L.
