114 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine became a professor of cellular and developmental biology. Since 1996, he has been named emeritus professor. All of these years of teaching and research do not come without recognition. Dr. Pepe was the recipient of the Research Career Development Award from the U.S. Public Health Service from 1968 to 1973, and he was awarded the Raymond C. Truex Distinguished Lecture Award from Hahneman University in 1988. Dr. Pepe is also a fellow for the American Association for the Advancement of Science and is a member of the American Association of Anatomists, the American Chemical Society and the Microscopy Society of America. Dr. Pepe credits Dr. Louis B. Slexner from UPenn and his wife Pepita as very important personal mentors through extensive guidance. Dr. Pepe has had many highlights throughout his career, but instead of choosing a specific moment, he is most grateful for the mentors and people he has met. F rank A. Pepe is a distinguished educator in the science field. He possesses years of research and teaching under his belt, which makes him one of the most elite scientists in cell and developmental biology. Dr. Pepe hails from Schenectady, New York, and attended Union College, where he received a Bachelor of Science in chemistry in 1953. He then graduated from Yale University in 1957 with a PhD in physical chemistry. His thesis subject was “Thermodynamics of the Antigen Antibody Reaction.” From his deep studies of the subject, he became extremely interested and began to pursue the subject further. Eventually, he asked the university for the use of their electron microscope to study his subject in even more visual detail. Constantly being around anatomy and biology, his scientific background transformed him to achieve the career he has had today. Throughout Dr. Pepe’s teaching career, he has been a dedicated member of the University of Pennsylvania (UPenn) in Philadelphia. He started in 1957 as an instructor of anatomy, and by 1963, he became an assistant professor, subsequently moving up to professor in 1970. From 1977 to 1990, Dr. Pepe was chairman of the anatomy department. In 1992, he switched gears and FRANK A.
