134 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine T eaching at Asbury Theological Seminary for 34 years, Dr. Joseph Shou-Jen Wang is a dedicated religion professor whose mission has been to understand the Bible more accurately so that he could pass his knowledge onto others who have devoted their lives to God. During his tenure at Asbury, he taught New Testament theology and Romans, as well as the origin of new languages. As one of very few Chinese professors to teach religion courses, he has subsequently been invited to teach at various universities, including Peking University and Tsinghua University. Dr. Wang has held a Bachelor of Science from National Taiwan University since 1957, Bachelor of Divinity from Asbury Theological Seminary since 1963, Master of Theology from Princeton Theological Seminary since 1964 and PhD from Emory University since 1970. Ordained to ministry by the Free Methodist Church of North America as a deacon in 1971 and elder in 1973, he has published a variety of books in both Chinese and English, as well as contributed myriad articles to professional journals and chapters to books. Notably, he was a contributing author of “An Inquiry into Soteriology” and “The Wesley Bible” in 1981 and 1990, respectively. Feeling his life purpose is to serve both God and his community, Dr. Wang has taught and spoken in many seminaries and churches across the globe. Notably, upon his arrival in the United States and attendance at Asbury Theological Seminary to obtain a Bachelor of Divinity degree, Dr. Wang’s professor advised that he had a special ability that God gave to him, which encouraged Dr. Wang to further his education. Since that time, he has become a fellow of the Institute for Biblical Research and member of the Society of Biblical Literature, the Evangelical Theological Society and the Wesleyan Theological Society. Dr. Wang has accrued several accolades over the course of his career in light of his outstanding contributions to religion and education. The recipient of a Lifetime Achievement Award, he also earned the Outstanding Educator of America Award in 1975. Additionally, he is featured in the fourth edition of Who’s Who in Religion. DR.
