144 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine D rawing upon admiration he held for his own schoolteachers in his formative years, Dr. Virgil M. Young desired to delve into education. He received a Bachelor of Science and EdD from the University of Idaho in 1958 and 1967, respectively, and became involved in academia after obtaining a bachelor’s degree. At the inception of his career in 1959, he served as a teacher in the Moscow School District for four years before becoming the administrative assistant to the superintendent of the Coeur d’Alene School District until 1967. From there, Dr. Young excelled in higher education as a professor of education at Boise State University until attaining emeritus status in 1996. During his tenure at Boise State, he also headed the Department of Education for seven years. Throughout his professional career, he was motivated by his passion for education. Becoming a professor aided in his mission to instill the importance of education in others. Dr. Young is a certified advanced secondary education educator and school superintendent in the state of Idaho. A former captain of the U.S. Army Reserve, he is most renowned for authoring the textbook “The Story of Idaho” in 1977, which has since been released in four editions. Likewise, he co-authored “The Story of the Idaho Guide and Resource Book” in 1993, “Quilters Garden of Verse” in 2013 and “Legends of the West” in 2014. In 2000, he wrote “The Year 2000 Grolier Multimedia Encyclopedia.” A designer and author of numerous educational and commercial websites since 1999, Dr. Young is also a past president of the Northwest Association of Teacher Educators, the Idaho Association of College Teacher Education and Phi Delta Kappa. In recognition of his outstanding contributions to education and academic administration, Dr. Young was selected for inclusion in numerous editions of Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in American Education and Who’s Who in the West.
