151 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine A renowned naval historian, Professor John B. Hattendorf has contributed to more than 50 books on British and American maritime history and naval warfare. Applauded for his extensive efforts in the realms of naval history and strategy, he has held the title of Ernest J. King Professor Emeritus of Maritime History at the Naval War College since 2016, having previously served as Ernest J. King Professor for the preceding 32 years. In light of his exceptional influence on the discipline, the Naval War College established the Hattendorf Prize for distinguished original research in maritime history in 2011. Recognized for his contributions, Rear Admiral Jeffrey Harley, the president of the Naval War College, and Rear Admiral Samuel Cox, the director of naval history, established the John B. Hattendorf Center for Maritime Historical Research in 2017. Professor Hattendorf holds a DPhil in modern history from the University of Oxford, where he earned a Doctor of Letters in 2016. An established author, he most recently edited “Charles XII: Warrior King” in March 2019, which is available for purchase on Amazon. Additionally, he edited “Redcoat in America,” which was published by Helion & Co. in 2019. ERNEST J. KING PROFESSOR EMERITUS OF MARITIME HISTORY Naval War College Newport, RI D r. Gerald Gruen became interested in psychology after reading Sigmund Freud’s “The Interpretation of Dreams” as a teenager. Drawing upon a Bachelor of Arts from Southern Illinois University and Master of Arts and PhD from the University of Illinois, he commenced his career in 1964 as a postdoctoral fellow at the Heinz Werner Institute for Developmental Psychology at Clark University and Worcester State Hospital for two years. From there, he served Purdue University as an assistant professor, associate professor and full professor between 1966 and 2005, when he ultimately attained emeritus status. Additionally, he was head of the Department of Psychological Sciences for a decade. A fellow of the American Psychological Association and American Psychological Society, Dr. Gruen received Research Awards from the National Institutes of Child Health and Human Development and also earned the Gordon Barrows Award for Distinguished Career Contributions from the Indiana Psychological Association in 2000. He was honored with National Research Service Awards from the National Institute of Mental Health from 1976 to 1980 and several U.S. Public Health Service Research Awards between 1968 and 1971.
