174 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine A pioneer in thefieldof high-frequencydevicesandcircuits, including modeling, simulation and microwave CAD, Dr. Barry S. Perlman was beloved by many and revered as a dedicated professional, as well as a doting husband, father and grandfather. At the inception of his career in 1961, Dr. Perlman served RCA Laboratories in multiple roles, primarily involved with research in microwave technology. During his tenure at RCA, he developed innovative solid-state technologies, including studies of transport in III-V semiconductors, and parametric devices and amplifiers. Likewise, throughout his career he completed extensive work in modeling, simulation and microwave computer-aided design. At the conclusion of his tenure with RCA, he was promoted to the management position of group head for design automation. Subsequent to his time spent at RCA, Dr. Perlman joined the faculty at the U.S. Army Research Laboratory, where he was responsible for solid state and high frequency MW and MMW electronics. He was also actively involved in challenging research and development projects. Joining the U.S. Army Communications-Electronics Research, Development and Engineering Center (CERDEC) in 1997, he went on to serve the research center as chief of applied communications, associate director of technology and director until his retirement in 2012. There, he participated in research and development programs involving advanced electronics for communications, computing, sensing and information technology. He was also the past computational technology area leader for high performance computing initiatives in electronics, networking and systems, as well as a member of the computational technology advisory panel, where he led a number of programs involving the use and application of multiprocessor scalable computing for large-scale modeling and simulation. Drawing upon a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering from the City College of New York, and MS in Electrical Engineering and PhD in electrophysics from the New York University Tandon School of Engineering, Dr. Perlman was a patentee in the field and edited the book “Advanced in Microwaves.” He received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the IEEE in 2012.
