180 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine L eroy E. Weathers is the epitome of rising up in the ranks. Mr. Weathers went into his profession because he was on a layoff from a mobile home company he was working for, but then a friend told him about a service job at Centel Electric. The Kansas native is recognized in his community as a leader due to his passion for service and his drive throughout his long career. Mr. Weathers started as a student at Kansas State University in Manhattan, Kansas, and immediately jumped into the workforce. While with Centel Electric, he was a serviceman for six years, the assistant to the divisional superintendent for one year and then a divisional customer service supervisor for 18 years. He worked with the company up until 1995. From 1952 to 1987, he was part of the military on active duty and the reserves. Throughout the duration of Mr. Weathers’ career, a highlight was marching with his company in President Dwight D. Eisenhower’s funeral procession; Eisenhower was also a native of Kansas, which was where his funeral was held. Community service is also what Mr. Weathers articulated as a career highlight. He said his parents George Edward and Edith Marie mentored him to always give back to his community, and he carried that mission with him through his life. He hopes to teach the same principle to his two children, five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. To add to his civic responsibilities, Mr. Weathers was also involved at the Central States Scout Museum in Pawnee County, Kansas, served on the board of directors of the Great Bend Economic Development Commission and was the vice chairman and council commissioner for the Great Bend chapter of the Boy Scouts of America, all within the 1980s. Mr. Weathers has been the recipient of multiple awards in his community, including the Alumni Award from the Kansas 4-H of Great Bend in 1971 and the Silver Beaver Award from the Boy Scouts of America in 1984. He was also recognized for serving as president of the Great Bend Chamber of Commerce and his membership with the First Congregational United Church of Christ. LEROY E.
