184 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine I n his childhood, Robert Evan Myer enjoyed disassembling and reassembling electronics. He began his career as a television repairman for West Essex Television in the 1940s before commencing his tenure at Bell Telephone Laboratory in Whippany, New Jersey. He served Bell in myriad positions, including technical aide, senior technical aide, associate and member of the technical staff. During this time, he attended the Newark College of Engineering, graduating magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering in 1967. Prior to establishing his own company in 2001, Mr. Myer served Lucent Technologies in a number of positions, eventually leaving Lucent as a distinguished member of the technical staff. Since that time, he has consulted on behalf of Myer Consulting. Mr. Myer holds more than 70 patents in the field and has conducted research in the wireless communications field. A recipient of the Rudolf Kompfner Trophy and AT&T Patent Award, he continues to design at the age of 90. He is proudest of his 10 children, 24 grandchildren, over 70 great- grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren, and credits his success to his lifetime service to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter- day Saints. ELECTRICAL ENGINEER, CONSULTANT Denville, NJ I nspired to enter the world of engineering by his high school teacher, who was an electrical engineer, Richard G. Merrell is a retired electronics systems engineer who most recently served GFI Genfare from 1999 until his retirement in 2003. Drawing upon a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) from Valparaiso Technical Institute, he commenced his career in 1962 as an electronic engineer forMotorola. Soon thereafter, he served as a senior consultant engineer for Zenith Electronics for a decade. During this time, Mr. Merrell also earned a BSEE and Master of Science in Electrical Engineering from the Illinois Institute of Technology. Other posts have included engineering roles at Oak Industries, Executive Search Network, TSC Management Services Group and Baxter International. A former instructor at the Illinois Institute of Technology, Mr. Merrell is a past member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and administrative committee member of the IEEE Consumer Electronics Group. He holds 28 patents in the field and was presented with a Best Paper Award from the IEEE in 1976 for a technical paper he authored. He enjoys camping, fishing, traveling and exercising.
