195 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine K aran Grewal developed an interest in the world of business during his high school years. Attending Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University soon thereafter, he received a degree in accounting in 2007 and commenced his career with Deloitte, a multinational professional services network that is considered one of the “Big Four” accounting organizations in the world. Progressing forward with his career, he subsequently became involved with nonprofit organizations and was hired by the Center for Strategic and International Studies in Washington, where he started as a junior accountant. Over the years, he has advanced through the ranks and now serves as an accounting manager, where he manages a staff of five colleagues and drives day-to-day operations. The Center for Strategic and International Studies was founded in 1962 as a foreign policy think tank, and now conducts studies and analyses of political, economic and security issues across the globe, with specific focuses on dilemmas regarding international relations, trade, technology, finance and energy. Mentored by his current directors and colleagues with whom he started his career, Mr. Grewal advises younger professionals to find a passion and pursue what they most enjoy. He attributes his success to his intrinsic ability to take control of situations and his astute attention to detail, noting that one lesson he has learned professionally is to take the initiative when he requires a task to be completed. Wishing to be remembered by his peers as an approachable, open- minded individual, he intends to move forward professionally and take on increasingly responsible roles, including director of finance and, eventually, chief financial officer.
