200 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine F ormerly employed with the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco for 16 fruitful years, Dr. Kent Otway Sims is a distinguished economist who draws upon 45 years of practiced excellence in the financial market. Throughout the course of his career, he has served such entities as C&K Partnership, Theodore R. Seton, the U.S. Department of State and the Urban Renewal Authority, beginning his career in 1965 while pursuing a doctoral degree. Most recently, he was involved with Petrie, Dorfmeier &Morris LLP from 2008 until his retirement in 2010. Other vocational appointments to Dr. Sims’ credit have included serving such organizations and corporations as Burnham & Brown, the California Restaurant Association, the Golden Gate Restaurant Association, the San Francisco Planning and Urban Research Association, the Mayor’s Office of San Francisco, the San Francisco Redevelopment Agency and the San Francisco Economic Development Corporation, among others. A registered investment advisor, he was notable for being the executive vice president and chief financial officer of the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco from 1982 to 1985, where he previously served as senior vice president, vice president, director of research, assistant vice president and economist. Drawing upon a Bachelor of Arts and PhD from the University of Colorado, Dr. Sims maintains affiliation with the American Economics Association. He also sat on the board of directors of the Jewish Community Museum, the Design Council of the San Francisco Bay Area and the Career Resources Development Center. Among the notable highlights of his career, he is proudest of the four years he spent as an economic developer for the governments of San Francisco and Oakland, where he strengthened the oversight of the city. In retirement, Dr. Sims focuses his efforts on gardening, reading and oil painting. A member of the Audubon Society of America, he spent 17 years on the board of trustees of the San Francisco Botanical Garden. Immensely proud of his gardening skills, he hopes to hold the title of Best Garden in Northern California in the upcoming years.
