226 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine I nterested in chemistry as an undergraduate student at Michigan State University, Dr. Glen R. Elliott found himself desiring to apply the sciences to real-life applications. Transitioning into brain chemistry, he attended the Stanford University School of Medicine with the idea of studying how the brain works, particularly with respect to mental illness. Earning an MD and PhD from the university, Dr. Elliott then served as an intern at Stanford University, resident in psychiatry at Harvard Medical School, and fellow in child and adolescent psychiatry at Stanford University. After joining the faculty of Stanford’s Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry in 1986, Dr. Elliott served as as the Director of the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at Langley Porter Psychiatric Hospital and Clinics with the University of California (UC), San Francisco, from 1989 to 2006, when he retired as emeritus professor of clinical psychiatry at UC San Francisco. Since then, Dr. Elliott has been the chief psychiatrist and medical director of the Children’s Health Council, as well as an affiliated clinical professor and associate training director of child and adolescent psychiatry training in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the Stanford University School of Medicine. Among the highlights of his career, Dr. Elliott cites accepting the position of head of child psychiatry at UC San Francisco as a crowning achievement, as he was afforded the opportunity to design a child and adolescent psychiatry program. Likewise, he is proud of authoring the book “Medicating Young Minds: How to Know if Psychiatric Drugs Will Help or Hurt Your Child” in 2006. The recipient of the 2019 Al De Ranieri Lifetime Achievement Award from the Northern California Regional Organization of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, Dr. Elliott also earned the 2018 Excellence in Clinical Supervision from Stanford University, 2011 Distinguished Alumnus Award from the Lyman Briggs College at Michigan State University and 2006 Chancellor’s Award for Community Service from UC San Francisco, among many others. He was also recognized by HealthTap as the #1 Child Psychiatrist in the United States. GLEN R.
