253 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine I mmensely inspired by his brother-in-law, who was an internist, to enter the field of medicine, Dr. Walter Richard Schwartz was equally influenced by the obstetricians he worked with during his years of medical training. Earning anMD from the University of Wisconsin in 1955, he went on to complete an internship at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield, Wisconsin, from 1955 to 1956 before serving in a residency in obstetrics-gynecology at Milwaukee County Hospital from 1958 to 1961. From there, Dr. Schwartz commenced his career in medicine as a staff member at West Allis Hospital and Sinai SamaritanHospital in 1961, serving both hospitals until his retirement in 1994. During his tenure in medicine, he also notably served as a staff member at Elmbrook Memorial Hospital from1971 to 1994 and as an associate clinical professor of obstetrics- gynecology at the Medical College of Wisconsin from 1976 to 1994. Dr. Schwartz is a diplomate of the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Throughout his career, he estimates that he has delivered over 5,000 babies and is humbled by his intrinsic ability to be kind, considerate and compassionate toward his patients. Driven by his goal to be the best physician he can be, he has also lent his expertise to civic endeavors, such as the State Mortality Committee, the Medical Examining Board of Wisconsin and on various church boards. To remain abreast of developments in the field, Dr. Schwartz has maintained affiliation with several industry-related organizations, including the American Medical Association, the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, and the Central Association of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. As a testament to his success, he was named a fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and the American College of Surgeons. Likewise, he was selected for inclusion in the second and third editions of Who’s Who in Medicine and Healthcare, as well as the 55th through 59th editions of Who’s Who in America.
