267 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine D esiring to be a physician from a young age, Dr. Stanley Ralph Hamilton has always held a passion for medicine. Receiving a Bachelor of Arts in zoology and MD from Indiana University in 1970 and 1973, respectively, he went on to serve as an intern and ultimately a full professor at Johns Hopkins Medicine beginning in 1973, holding the roles until his departure in 1998. Since that time, Dr. Hamilton has served as professor and head of pathology and laboratory medicine at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. A diplomate in anatomical and clinical pathology by the American Board of Pathology, Dr. Hamilton notes that his greatest career achievement has been improving the lives of cancer patients. He is proud of having worked in Benjamin Baker’s multidisciplinary team during a time when “team science” was just beginning to form. Crediting his success to the support and encouragement of his wife and parents, he has received numerous accolades throughout his career, including Lifetime Achievement Awards, and was inducted into the Johns Hopkins Society of Scholars. Fried, MD, Chair of the Department of Medicine since 2013. He is a gastroenterologist and educator and has been on the faculties of Tufts University School of Medicine, Harvard Medical School and Jefferson Medical College. The recipient of a BA and MD from Johns Hopkins University, Dr. Friedman has been an editor of a number of books, including five editions of “Sleisenger and Fordtran’s Gastrointestinal and Liver Disease” and four editions of “Handbook of Liver Disease.” He is a fellow of the American College of Physicians and other medical societies, and completed medical training at Johns Hopkins Hospital and Massachusetts General Hospital. He has served on the Board of Directors of the American Board of Internal Medicine, among many other leadership positions. Dr. Friedman has earned the 2010 Distinguished Educator Award from the American Gastroenterological Association, the 1996 Alfred Kranes Award for Excellence in Clinical Teaching from Massachusetts General Hospital, and five Excellence in Teaching Awards from the Tufts University School of Medicine between 2003 and 2007.
