279 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine I nterested in business law since his undergraduate studies at Villanova University, Robert A. Godwin earned a Bachelor of Science in 1960 and JD in 1963. Admitted to the Pennsylvania Bar Association the following year, he has also been admitted to practice law before the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit and the Supreme Court of the United States. At the inception of his career in 1964, Mr. Godwin served as a volunteer defender in Philadelphia before becoming an associate at Eastburn & Gray in Doylestown, Pennsylvania, from 1968 to 1970. During this time, he was also an assistant public defender in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, from 1969 to 1971 before commencing his own private practice in law in Newtown, Pennsylvania, which he upheld for two years. A former partner of Timby & Godwin from 1973 to 1975, he has served as an attorney at Robert A. Godwin & Associates since 1975. During his legal career, Mr. Godwin was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Marine Corps and subsequently rose through the ranks to senior defense counsel of the Third Marine Division in Vietnam and a judge advocate general. He then served of senior trial counsel at Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton before serving the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve from 1969 to 1992. He is a past assistant director of the Judge Advocate Division of Headquarters Marine Corps in Washington and thereafter retired as colonel in 1998. In light of his military service, he has earned a Legion of Merit, Reserve Medal with Four Stars, National Defense Medal with One Star, Vietnamese Service Medal with Two Stars and a Vietnam Cross of Gallantry Ribbon, among other accolades. Mr. Godwin has been active with the Rotary Club for 30 years and maintains affiliation with the Pennsylvania Bar Association, Pennsylvania Trial Lawyers Association and Bucks County Bar Association.
