308 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine P aul A. Sortland is a dedicated attorney who has been the head of the Sortland Law Office, PLLC since 1993. Prior to that time, Mr. Sortland was a partner of a major Twin Cities law firm, and earlier practiced law in Fargo, North Dakota, and Austin, Minnesota. He also served as an adjunct professor of business law at Minnesota State University Moorhead (formerly known as Moorhead State University). Mr. Sortland received a Bachelor of Arts from St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota, and his Doctor of Jurisprudence from the University of Minnesota. He is admitted to practice in both Minnesota and North Dakota, as well as in the federal courts of both states and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit. Likewise, he is admitted to practice before the Supreme Court of the United States. Mr. Sortland was named a Civil Trial Specialist by the litigation section of the Minnesota State Bar Association in 1991. Saeks is an arbitrator and retired Senior Counsel of Stinson Leonard Street LLP. Serving the law firm for nearly 60 years, he retired as Senior Counsel in 2018, previously holding the roles as Legal Counsel, partner and associate beginning in 1960. At the inception of his career in 1956, he was an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Department of Justice for one year until being commissioned as First Lieutenant in the U.S. Army JAG Corps, where he served at the Pentagon. He also served as an adjunct professor of law at the University of Minnesota Law School and was a co-founder of the Minnesota Supreme Court Historical Society. The recipient of a Bachelor of Laws and JD degree from the University of Minnesota, where he was inducted into the Order of the Coif, Mr. Saeks is a Life Fellow of the American Bar Foundation and served in executive roles with the Minnesota State Bar Association and Hennepin County Bar Association. As a testament to his success, he was the first recipient in 2012 of the Richard S. Arnold Award for Distinguished Service from the Eighth Circuit Bar Association.
